What is Mantoe ?

In the Shingon sect of Buddhism, Kobotaishi (Kukai) was given imperial permission to concentrate on practicing Mantoe on Mt. Koya in 832. By offering a candle, one of the memorial symbols, one can repent the guilt and respond to 4 favors (three treasurers of Buddhism, nation, parents, and all living things) by reciting sutra and dedicating a candle to the Buddha. The reward is so great that it lights up people, removes the shadow, and gives them wisdom, fortune and awareness.
