Animals on Miyajima
Deer
In recent years, there have been some problems with the deer population as a result of contact with people.
Deer moving toward crowded areas, and overpopulaion have created incidents with people, both harming the natural environment and also causing injury to tourists.
The deer are being hurt by eating inedible debris, which accumulates in their stomachs and damages their health causing nutrition problems.
Tanuki
"Raccoon dogs" appear frequently in Miyajima, too.
They did not turn up for a while, but they have been seen recently again.
They appear in the daytime with luck. You might encounter with a "white raccoon dog" with more luck!?
