Four Seasons in Miyajima
There are four distinct seasons in Japan, and we are able to appreciate the change of each season. You can plan your visit at any time of the year.

Spring
Spring is the season of cherry blossoms. Visit Tahoto, Uguisu alley, or the 5 storied pagoda for cherry blossoms. The temperature is mild, and good for nature walking.
Our recommenadtion is to take a walk along Uguisu alley in the direction of Yatsugahara, one of the eight great views in Itsukushima island. Yatsugahara is famous for cherry blossoms.
There is the Miyajima Hina Doll Exhibition in local residences, or inns in Miyajima from the end of March through early April.

Summer
Summer in Japan is very humid, and temperatures hit from 30 to 35 degrees. The annual Miyajima fire works by the sea in August is one of the most famous events. The background is the great Torii, and fireworks are set off over the sea.
Do not miss the Kangen festival. It is the biggest religious ceremony of Itsukushima Shrine.
Enjoy bathing in the sea at Tsutsumi gaura Nature Park which has a beautiful shoreline. It is recommended to sea kayak around the island, and taste the many flavored snow cones.

Autumn
Spring and autum are equally loved by Japanese people.
It is spectacular to overlook the dotted islands on the Seto Inland Sea from the top of Misen, under the clear autumn sky. You can reach the summit of Misen by taking the Miyajima Ropeway, or via three hiking routes up to Misen.
We have the habit of viewing maple trees in autumn. There is Momiji Dani Park at the foot of the Misen Virgin Forest. It is designated as a natural treasure. There are also other areas to enjoy, the maple trees along the Momiji Path, Ohmoto Park, and other places.
Please try Momiji Manjyu, as the idea of Momiji Manjyu came from Momiji Dani Park.

Winter
Winter is less crowded with tourists, and you can have the island almost to yourself. If it snows, you can enjoy the snowscape of Miyajima.
There is an annual Momote festival on January 20th. It is an archery festival. The Setsubun Festival is on February 3rd. It is possible to see authentic and traditional Japanese festivals.
Satisfy your appetite with thick, strong and sweet oysters given the good environment of the Miyajima Virgin Forest.
And in the cold winter, the best thing is to visit the hotsprings, or take a bath. Experience winter in Japan during your stay at the inns or hotels of Miyajima.
