Mount Misen & Parks
Take a short trip to Misen where there are less tourists and you can experience the beautiful nature of Miyajima. Please encounter nature’s handiwork on the ‘Island of the Gods’.
Mount Misen
Misen, the highest mountain on Miyajima island is more than 535 Meters above sea level. The ‘Virgin Forest Misen’, which has been selected as a Natural Monument, has a mixture of conifer trees and plants from different latitudes. It is a very valuable site, as we are able to observe primitive plants like ‘Trochodendro Aralioides’ in natural settings.
Momijidani Park
Is a park stretching along Momijidani river near the valley at the foot of mount Misen. It was cultivated during the Edo period when maple saplings trees were planted. This was the beginning of Momijidani Park. One of the ‘Eight Most Beautiful Views’ in Itsukushima, ‘Yatsugaharabiroku’ meaning ‘Yatsugahara’ is in the east of Momijidani Park.
Beach
Miyajima is not only attractive for its shrines and temples. It is one of the islands in the Seto Inland Sea with a nature park that has a beach and a pretty coastline.
The deer on Miyajima are wild. They may eat paper and cloth. Please do not throw trash on the ground and do not feed the deer.
