Cultural Heritage:

Events and Matsuri

Miyajima holds several unique and historical festivals. In the spring it observes the Kiyomori Festival in which participants form a parade while dressed in historical costumes, and a Shinto ritual in which participants walk barefoot on fire; in the summer Kangensai, a music festival, and the Water Fireworks Display are popular. Bugaku, traditional Japanese court music and dancing, is also performed as a religious offering several times a year at Itsukushima Shrine.
